Amritsar Congress.

LAHORE, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 1919

WE understand that Pandit Deva Ratan Sharma has arrived at Amritsar to encourage local workers in the work of the next Congress which, we are assured, may be taken as practically settled. Several thousands of residents have already signed the pledge to hold the success in their town and have requested the All India Congress Committee to assist them in carrying out their resolution. Efforts are being made to enlist the co-operation of the local officials and with the return of their permanent Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Burton, the people are confident of a sympathetic response. A meeting of the Reception Committee is expected to be held early to make a definite decision and it is hoped the work of organising the various departments of the Congress work will then be taken in hand.
